Cinnamon Rolls

Savor the delicious allure of cinnamon rolls – soft, coiled dough infused with cinnamon and sugar, topped with a velvety icing drizzle. This pastry originated in Sweden as “kanelbulle” and has since become a beloved global indulgence.

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

For the dough:
1. Heat the milk, water, and butter in a small saucepan until the mixture reaches about 110°F (43°C).
2. Remove from heat.
3. Combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
4. Add the warm milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
5. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well incorporated.
6. Gradually add about half a cup of the remaining flour until a soft dough is formed.
7. Place the dough on a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
8. Put the dough in a bowl greased with oil, cover it with a damp cloth, and leave it in a warm place for around 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

For the filling:
Mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon in a small bowl for the filling.

Assembling the rolls:
1. After the dough doubles, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to form a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
2. Spread the prepared filling evenly over the dough.
3. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
4. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.
5. Place the slices in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, leaving a little space between each roll.
6. Cover the pan with a cloth and let the rolls rise again for about 30 minutes.

Baking the rolls:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. After the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven until golden brown and cooked through, 3. which should take 20-25 minutes.

For the cream cheese icing:
1. In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
2. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the icing is smooth and creamy.

Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly. Then, spread the cream cheese icing over the warm rolls. Lastly, be sure to serve the cinnamon rolls while warm for optimal enjoyment!
