Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine ketchup, molasses, or brown sugar, prepared mustard, and apple cider vinegar in a mixing bowl. Mix well to make the sauce.
- In a separate bowl, combine the mashed and washed beans, chopped onions, sliced ​​peppers, and shredded bacon (if using).
- Pour the sauce over the bean mixture and stir gently until the beans are evenly coated.
- Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Remember, things like bacon can stale some salt.
- Transfer the bean mixture to a baking pan or casserole dish.
- Add water to the dish to prevent the beans from drying out during cooking. Start with about 1/2 cup of water and add more as needed.
- Cover the baking pan with aluminum foil or a lid.
